Member Spotlight - Maragaret M. aka MargieBe...

How long have you been a member of Fountain City? 1.5 years

What's your 30 second elevator pitch about yourself? (What do you do, tell us about your family/hobbies) I work as an affordable housing administrator. I love my job and am equally passionate about government, Buffy, scary movies, excel, my dog Max, NBA fashion, and hugging Katie at the gym.

What initially brought you into FCF? I had just moved to Kansas City during COVID-19 and was working from home. I was hoping to find a gym that would keep me active and allow me to meet new people and feel like I was part of a community. BOY DID FFC DELIVER!

Tell us about you fitness/health background? (Did you play sports growing up? Try other gyms/work out at home?) I swam growing up and played soccer in high school but never considered myself an athlete. In college and grad school, I realized how beneficial being active was to my mental health. I started doing CrossFit right before moving to Kansas City and fell in love.

What are some changes you've noticed in yourself during your time here at FCF? (Physically, mentally, capabilities, daily life, etc.) Having a coach push me to do a workout I would never do on my own has made me stronger physically and mentally. Supporting and being supported by the coaches and other athletes at FCF is a type of support I had never experienced! It truly feels like a family that is all rooting for each other inside and outside of the gym.

What kinds of things can you do now, that you were not able to do when you first started CrossFit? (inside or outside of the gym) OMG where to begin! A few (still working) double unders and toes to bar. I can deadlift more than Adele and regularly do 30 power cleans in 10 minutes. Box jumps then higher box jumps then an even higher box jump!

What motivates you to keep coming back for more week after week? The people. I genuinely enjoy seeing everyone and hearing the question of the day answers. Fist bumping everyone after a tough workout is weirdly rewarding.

In your opinion, what is the most valuable aspect of Fountain City Fitness? Travis! And the coaches! They create such a warm, fun, and welcoming atmosphere that allows you to connect to people and push yourself.

What do you hope to accomplish in the future here at FCF?

In no particular order: pull ups, consistent double unders and toes to bar. I would love to have a year where I attempt all the RX open workouts. I would love to do more competitions. And hopefully I help people that attend FCF feel as supported as I do!

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone that is considering joining a CrossFit gym? Do it! And do it at FCF!
